Breaking News: Police Officers Spend A Lot For Gasoline Too
Wed, Jul 23, 2008
You’re not the only one feeling the crunch at the gas pump lately. The local police departments are hurting as well.
This Tennesesean article talks about how the sudden surge in gas prices this year has thrown municipal budgets for gasoline into upheaval.
They’re trying to increase the number of bicycle and mounted patrolmen and cut down on the number of vehicles using precious fuel. [What they should do, if you ask me, is set SumnerShortcuts.com as their home page so they can buy the cheapest gas available on any given day. But I guess I'm biased a bit.]
The City of Hendersonville spent a whopping $415,498.62 on gasoline… last year. I shudder to think what that number will be for the 2008 fiscal year. Seriously… I’m shuddering right now.
Want to know why? Because who do you think the City of Hendersonville gets their funding from? That’s right… us. I am so glad the Tennessean decided to remind me that I’m actually suffering from the latest gas prices even more than I thought I was.
Wonder how the City of Gallatin feels about those swanky new gas-guzzling Dodge Chargers now, eh?
I’m going to go get depressed… and maybe buy a rickshaw.
