Calling Sumner County Voters: Register & Update Your Registration Today
Fri, Sep 5, 2008
In November, as you might have heard, we’ll be electing a new President of the United States. It’s rather exciting to know that regardless of the outcome we will be shattering stereotypes. We will either have our nation’s first African American President, or our first female Vice President.
But there’s a lot more on the line on election day than just the office of the Presidency. In Sumner County, we’re electing state, county, and municipal officials as well. And the outcome of those elections will impact your life in an even more direct way.
Of the 150,000 or so Sumner County residents, only 85,000 are registered to vote. That’s actually a good number, in my book… more than half. But there are still a lot of you who care about the rules and laws of your city, state, and country who have, for some reason, decided not to let your voice be heard.
Of the 85,000 registered voters, it seems that more than 10,000 of them are “inactive”, which means those folks have either moved or have not voted in a while.
So this is my civic duty here, reminding you to register to vote. I honestly have no idea who I’m going to vote for, but you better darn well believe I’m going to vote.
Those of you who are registered? It’s time to make sure your registration is up to date.
You can register or update your registration on the Sumner County Election Commission’s website–it’s terribly easy.
Whatever your political leanings… please let your voice be heard this November. You only have until October 6th to complete your registration, so act fast!
