Downtown Gallatin Business District Is Sumner County’s Newest WiFi Hotspot
Wed, Jul 16, 2008
The Gallatin City Council has quietly spent about $12,000 setting up a Wireless Internet network in the downtown district. It’s been active for a little over a month.
The plan calls for eventual expansion to other areas in Gallatin, such as city parks.
The new Gallatin WiFi initiative is using mesh-network technology. Instead of one big wireless signal, it uses a network of wireless gadgets that share the workload.
If I’m a business with offices in the downtown Gallatin business district… I’m about three seconds away from canceling my DSL or broadband, and I’m readying a bouquet of roses for the City Council.
This is fantastic news. Sumner County is growing rapidly, and it’s nice to see the local cities doing their best to stay up to date. First Hendersonville throws up WiFi at Drake’s Creek Park, and now this. It’s just one step closer to my dream of every square inch of this county being covered by WiFi.
