Gallatin High School On Edge Today
Thu, Sep 25, 2008
Gallatin High School is most definitely on edge today. The entire city is, really.
Rumors of a possible retaliation shooting to take place at today’s pep rally have forced the school to increase security and forced a lot of parents to keep their kids home today.
I’m going to try very hard to steer clear of my usual sarcastic writing tone, because there simply is nothing funny about school shootings. Kids deserve and need a place to learn and mature without the fear of violence. And parents deserve to be able to sleep at night knowing their kids are safe each day in class.
Seems there was a fight on Monday that involved three students, and one of them made the threat. All three were suspended after the fight, but the article says it’s unknown if they are due back by today. (How can that be unknown?!) Oh, and they’re pretty sure this whole thing is gang related.
Someone tell me one good thing gangs have ever done. I’ll wait.
Oh, you can’t? That’s what I thought.
So say some prayers this morning for Gallatin High School and their pep rally. School officials don’t seem to think the threat is serious, stating they’re upping security to make parents and students feel better and safer. But I bet you could find some journaled or MySpaced or YouTubed threat for every single school shooting in the history of man, and no one ever took those seriously either.
Here’s hoping the day passes without incident. Scary days like this make home schooling a pretty attractive option, no?

Time for segregation: one school for students and a holding pen for thugs. Dan Herron is rolling over in his grave.
