Gas Drops Below $2.00 For First Time In, Like, Forever
Wed, Nov 12, 2008
You know, it was only 7 weeks ago that the cheapest local gas price was over $4.00 a gallon. Man, things can change in a hurry, can’t they?
For the first time in probably years, there are at least 9 Sumner County gas stations selling regular unleaded for less than $2.00 a gallon. I did not seriously think we’d ever see gas this cheap again.
I wouldn’t go buying that ridiculously large SUV you’ve had your eye on, though. Unfortunately, the OPEC people are having some emergency conference to figure out how to keep the price from going any lower. What this likely means is that they’ll simply stop producing as much oil. Lowering the supply will increase the demand, which will turn the price back around in a direction that is favorable to them.
So enjoy it while it lasts. Consider it an early Christmas present. Soon enough, we’ll be inching our way back up toward $3/gallon and beyond. For now, though, it’s nice to have this chance to party like it’s 1999.
