Hendersonville To Hold Town Hall To Let People Vent About Gas Prices
Wed, Aug 27, 2008
Hendersonville residents have had enough of the high gas prices!! They’ve been sending emails and making phone calls to the local state representatives such as Debra Maggart, anxious to know what they can do to avoid higher gas prices. And enough citizens have done this that they went ahead and scheduled a town hall about it.
I think maybe the emails and phone calls to the reps are a delayed reaction. I guess these citizens haven’t noticed the more-than-sixty-cent drop in prices over just the past month or so. Or maybe they noticed, and that big of a drop reminded them how ridiculous it was that prices were ever that high to begin with.
Regardless… some of you are ticked off! And now there’s a forum for you to go and vent about Exxon and Shell making too much profit off our hard-earned dollars.
The town hall meeting will be at the Hendersonville City Hall, on Thursday (that’s tomorrow) at 10:00am. Great. So… if you, you know, have a job and stuff… you’re out of luck. Only people with nothing better to do at 10am may participate.
If it sounds like I think the town hall idea is a bit pointless… that’s because I do. I can’t think of a single thing that can be done on a municipal level to bring down gas prices. Most of the regulations and laws that affect the price of gas are on a federal level, with a few tax-related things on the state level.
So if there’s no real gain to be had, no real progress to be made by this town hall… then it really is just a gripe-fest.
I’ll be looking out for the follow-up article that is sure to come, detailing the great insights and plans of action that come out of this town hall. Probably won’t attend. I can complain about high gas prices from the comfort of my living room and accomplish no less than those who attend the town hall will.
I know no one is happy about paying more for gas… but people, let’s take time to smell the roses. We were darn near paying $4.00 a gallon 40 days ago. Now we’re in the $3.30’s. That’s something to be thankful for.
