Hendersonville Vet Formally Charged
Wed, May 20, 2009
Remember the Sumner County veterinarian whose fired employees had gone to the cops about crimes he had allegedly committed? Remember how a lot of the community came forth in support of Dr. Graham, especially in the comments section on the Tennessean article, angrily defending him and attacking the accusers?Â
Yeah, well, that guy’s been charged with 33 counts of criminal responsibility for allegedly teaching his employees to euthanize animals without going through the proper training and certification. Yikes. For the laymen: that means he taught hourly employees–probably high school students–how to put animals to sleep and then let them do the euthanasias for him.Â
I had to put a pet to sleep not too long ago… it’s rough. Even rougher, I imagine, if you find out later the vet tossed the animal to one of his minimum wage, untrained techs and told him to “take care of it.”Â
Oh, and this guy was also doing X-rays of people. People. In a vet’s office. I know health care is expensive, people, but do you really want a vet looking into little Johnny’s cough?Â
Those of you defending the good doctor–who is still only accused, not convicted–will be happy to know that both the employees who turned him in have also been charged for their roles in the illegal behavior.Â
