Local Basketball Star, John Jenkins of Gallatin, Getting High Praise
Wed, Jul 9, 2008
I have to confess that I don’t follow high school sports very much. It’s certainly not because I don’t enjoy sports… but there are so many high schools that it’s hard to keep up. Additionally, I went to high school in another state, so I don’t have that hometown alumni thing going on.
But I was pleasantly surprised to read several sources have been heaping high praise on a local athlete.
John Jenkins, of Gallatin, who is headed to play basketball at Vanderbilt this fall, is turning heads at the Lebron James basketball camp.
Here’s one example:
Don’t expect to see much zone defense against Vanderbilt when Jenkins is on the court. The sharp shooter dominated the third quarter when teams play a 2-3 zone in both of his games on day two. Jenkins has also been good against the man-to-man. He has a great feel for moving without the ball and utilizing screens and has a high, quick release.
Here’s another:
He can hit shots on the move and doesn’t need much space to get it off. Other areas of his game are in the process of developing, but there is no doubt that he will be a high-level scorer in the SEC.
And one more for good measure:
I don’t know much about this kid, but every time I looked up he seemed to be scoring. That can’t be a bad thing.
I know you’re all waiting for my trademark Sumner Shortcuts sarcastic take on these events, but this time it’s not coming. I’m just happy for the guy.
Congrats John, and good luck at Vanderbilt. Great work thus far in representing Gallatin and Sumner County, and keep up the good work.
