Sex Offender Laws/Rules Are Confusing & Unfair
Fri, Aug 15, 2008
So… let me get this straight… a convicted sex offender has to live at least 1000 feet away from places like day-cares and schools… but living one house down from the actual victim you were convicted of abusing is okay?!?! What is wrong with our legal system?
You know what? She has every right to be concerned. It’s patently ridiculous that we’ve got rules regarding where a sex offender may live, but those rules do nothing to keep him from living so close to his previous victim.
In fact, if I may be so bold, I submit that the very first law we created regarding sex offenders should have been: No living next door to the person(s) you assaulted or abused.
According to the article, the man “lived in the home prior to the offense and that because of a loophole in Tennessee law, he’s allowed to move back there unless a judge ordered otherwise.”
Sweet. Wonderful legal system, Tennessee. Glad we have loopholes the size of freaking Texas in our sex offender laws. Great going. Guess you were too busy passing the lottery to cross all the T’s on this stuff, eh?
