Sumner Beauty: Hummingbirds Are Cool
Tue, Sep 9, 2008
Marsha from Hendersonville sent me about a thousand pictures of her brand new hummingbirds–she’s very proud.
Okay, so it wasn’t a thousand… but it was a lot.
And honestly, I’m happy she sent so many. It gave me a chance to pick my favorites to share with you fine readers. There were a lot of good shots–seems she has several of these guys hanging around lately.
Says Marsha:
“We put in a hummingbird feeder about a week ago as an afterthought. Less than an hour later, we spotted the little guy taking a drink! I sat out on our patio for a couple hours this past weekend to try and see if they would come to the feeder while I was there. I had to sit very still and be patient, but eventually they came. And I had my camera ready to go.”
Awesome. I especially like the little butterfly in that first picture–he’s totally trying to steal the spotlight!
Marsha, thanks a lot for sending these photos–and for spending two hours of your weekend sitting still as a statue on your patio.
Sumner Shortcuts is always looking for great local photography to feature for our readers’ enjoyment. If you have some nice shots of the Sumner countryside or wildlife, please send it along to sumnershortcuts@gmail.com. If we use yours, we’ll totally credit you and give you props.
Here’s a bonus shot of one of Marsha’s hummingbirds–notice the other hummingbird in the tree playing the spectator:
