Sumner County Schools: “Asbestos Is No Big Deal”
Sun, Aug 24, 2008
So 19 Sumner County Schools have asbestos.
Yikes!
Actually, the Board of Education says not to worry. Seems that asbestos isn’t as big a threat as decades of evening news broadcasts have led us to believe.
Schools aren’t even required by law to remove it, but are instead allowed to simply manage it, provided its not a health-risk.
“The goal is to eventually remove all of it from our schools,” said Mike Marshall, maintenance supervisor of Sumner County Schools. “Asbestos is everywhere, but people don’t realize it.”
It’s everywhere! Everybody run!!
Just kidding. Don’t run. It’s not an immediate threat. Besides, they’re going to remove it… eventually.
Hooray, asbestos is no big deal!
Hmmm… wonder what else the evening news has been exagerating?

Removing the asbestos is the dangerous part if not done according properly. Three thousand people per year are diagnosed and most will be dead within one year (see: http://www.curemeso.org) Not dangerous?
