Sumner Shortcuts Is Very Manly
Fri, Sep 5, 2008
So it has come to my attention, via emails and conversations, that many of our fine readers believe me to be a woman. I am, in fact, a man.
But this perception is totally fine with me… because it’s humorous. I never set out to write this site with a gender-specific tone, though I have often considered whether men or women would make up the bulk of the readers. Certainly a good portion of readers will likely be moms, as much of my content is covering topics important to them (gas prices, consumer stories, health inspector scores, etc.).
But I hadn’t given any thought to the possibility that my writing style might come of as, well, feminine.
Seriously, I’m fine with it. Promise.
But for the record… I’m very manly. Notice the picture. That’s what I do… all… day… long. I put on manly clothes, grab a hard hat and a chain saw, and then proceed to an afternoon of destruction. Sometimes I watch football and drink beer while I’m chainsawing… just to further increase the manliness.
Hopefully this revelation won’t cost me readers, because I do very much enjoy reading the comments and emails from you guys.
I’m just interested in gas prices, food safety, and general news and observations about life in Sumner County, and I have a few contributing authors who are gracious enough to let me edit their articles with my trademark sarcasm… and some of those contributors are women.
Hey, come out and see us at the Festival by the Lake in Hendersonville (Saturday, September 20th, at Drakes Creek Park) and you can meet me in person at our Xbox 360 Madden ‘09 tournament (hey, that’s kind of manly, right?). I probably won’t have the hard hat and chain saw, but I’ll try and dress masculine.
Hope to see you there!

I think this is completely my fault. Thanks a lot Mike.

No, there have been a handful of mentions in emails I have received as well. No worries. I guess I’m just not that manly-sounding when I write. I’m fine with it. Really.
