Sumner Shortcuts Xbox 360 Madden ‘09 Tournament A Rousing Success
Mon, Sep 22, 2008
Sumner Shortcuts sponsored its first real-world event this past weekend at Hendersonville’s Festival By The Lake in Drakes Creek Park. It was a Madden ‘09 Xbox 360 Tournament, and it was the bomb. Sorry to any of you who missed it.
We had over 50 people participate throughout the day, capped off by our Champions Bracket which saw the top 8 performers of the day go head to head for the prize. Oh, the prize was a brand new Xbox 360, 2 controllers, and a copy of the Madden ‘09 game.
We also ran a television with the UT game–something that certainly would have been more popular had Florida not wrapped up the victory before the end of the first quarter.
We had a bunch of drinks to sell for $1 a piece, and that turned out to be not anywhere near as popular as I had expected. It’s totally cool… I’m not upset about it. But if anyone needs, like, 8 cases of Mountain Dew… make an offer.
I’d like to thank some of the people who made this event a success:
- Video Games Etc, who donated the brand new Xbox 360 the winner received, as well as the other system we used for the tournament. Thanks a bunch, guys!
- All the restaurants and local businesses that donated passes for our prize packs, including Demo’s, Mimi’s Cafe, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Jimmy John’s, Brix Wood Fired Pizza, Regal Streets of Indian Lake 16, and NCG Cinemas. Thanks to local establishments like you… all our top 8 performers got to go home with something nice.
- Exhibit Zone, who donated our wonderful banner.
- The Hendersonville Rotary, who helped us get a tent and tables, and worked with us to promote and enhance the event… especially Scott and his crew of volunteers. Thanks guys!
- My friends who helped out throughout the day… you know who you are.
- My father in law and my friend Jamie, who loaned us televisions.
- Southern Sports Promotions, who made our fantastic T-shirts (which are still available–email sumnershortcuts@gmail.com for more information).
- Everyone who participated in the tournament, stopped by to watch, or just sent us warm fuzzies and good vibrations throughout the day.
Our big winner was Nathan F. He also happened to be our very first player of the day. He entered the Champions Tournament as the 3 seed, but managed to pull out victories all throughout the tourney, eeking out our 1 seed, Ryan, in the final game to take home the prize. Congratulations, Nathan, and thanks for participating. Here are some photos from the event, beginning with a shot of the champion with his prize:
