Sumner Shortcuts

Did you know they hold actual competitions to see who the best grocery bagger in the state of Tennessee is?  Well they do.  And a Sumner County gal won! 

Woo-hoo!  In your face, Williamson County… with your snooty, uppity baggers who aren’t as quick and efficient! 

Now, I’ve bagged groceries for a living before (briefly, and a long time ago), and I can tell you from experience that it’s not easy to do well and to do quickly. 

The Tennessee Grocers Association puts this thing on, apparently annually.  The article doesn’t really specify how the competition works–like, how many rounds are there and such.  But they do apparently judge the contestants on speed, technique, style, and weight distribution. 

Wait–style?  Not, like… fashion sense right? 

Yeah, probably not.  So then… is this category like flair?  I can just see this gal wowing the judges by flipping cans of corn into the air and off her shoulder like Tom Cruise in Cocktail.  Sweet!
